An investigation is continuing into the death of one man and hospitalization of another, after Westville Police were dispatched early Friday (March 18, 2022) to a possible overdose. Westville Police Chief David Booe says officers were dispatched to an apartment at 307 South State Street shortly after 8:00 a.m. on a report of a possible overdose from an unknown substance.
While responding, police were advised there were two adult subjects in an upstairs apartment above Sophia’s Stefani’s Tavern. Police found a 23-year-old man there who was dead when they arrived. Another man, who is 36, was unconscious and not breathing. Chief Booe says an officer administered two doses of Naloxone (NARCAN) to the second adult male and assisted with breathing. The second male started breathing on his own and was transported to an area hospital. Police say he is expected to survive.
Chief Booe added Westville Police requested assistance from the Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department and Vermilion County Coroner’s Office to assist in the investigation. He says no other information is being released at this time…including the name of the 23-year-old man who died.
