The new CDI Head Start Facility in Danville at 1001 East Voorhees had its official ribbon cutting Friday afternoon. The old Social Security building is already quite busy, and looking to enroll more children. The Community Development Institute Head Start Interim Management Program goes back to the LBJ administration. And as site manager Nicole Hall explains, the mission of the new facility is to be there for pre-kindergarten children and their families, and they’ve got room.
AUDIO: So currently at our Voorhees facility we have about 40 three-to-five year olds, and 16 zero-to-three year olds. Now this facility can house up to 100 children; and we’re currently working on enrollment for the next school year, because we want to have this place jam-packed.

Danville Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr is actually a graduate of the Head Start program. And he’s hoping that this location in Danville will someday transition to local management.
AUDIO: I’m just really proud. I was very worried that when Community Action lost the program that it would not continue in their community. So I’m proud of CDI for stepping in, and I look forward to the day that it will return to local hands.
