A couple weeks ago we learned about what some Schlarman Academy students were doing for the people of Ukraine. This week, some activity is brewing at Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin High School. As Social Studies teacher Jennifer Guminski explains, it started with some conversation in one of her classes.

And then we started getting into a little bit more about what was happening with the refugees, and some of the crisis that they were facing. And I asked them if they’d want to get started doing something, and it started as simple as that we drew a Ukrainian flag on the chalkboard in the back of my room; and students signed it and said “We Stand with Ukraine.”
Guminski says the students will be having a bake sale this Friday, with donations going to the World Central Kitchen.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: It’s an organization that goes into areas. They first started with the earthquake in Haiti. And they bring food and meals to people who are in need. But they don’t just kind of dump the food and run. They hire local workers; they source from local organizations. And it’s also an attempt to keep the economy going during this time period.
Also raising funds for the people of Ukraine at Bismarck-Henning-Rossville-Alvin High School will be the sale of some blue and yellow bracelets made by students, and the raffle of a blanket in Ukraine colors, made by BHRA student Catherine Luttrell. (above picture)
