After having a bit of a setback from December to January, the area jobs picture showed an improvement from January to February, and continues to look much better than one year ago.
In Vermilion County, the unemployment rate dropped from 6.3% in January to six percent flat in February. Vermilion County’s rate stood at 7.7% in February of 2021.
The City of Danville’s jobless rate dropped from six percent flat in January to 5.4 percent in February. Danville’s rate came in at 8.6 percent in February of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
In Vermilion County, non-farm employment has increased by over 500 jobs when comparing February of 2022 to February of 2021. Leisure and hospitality was up by over 300 jobs, government jobs was up by 200, and wholesale trade up by 100. Manufacturing, meanwhile, had dropped by over 100 jobs from February of 2021 to 2022.
