Tuesday, April 19th is just around the corner; and that is the date for the ground breaking of the approved Golden Nugget Casino out on Eastgate Drive off Lynch Road. Danville mayor Rickey Williams, Jr says with the approval by the Illinois Gaming Board back on March 10th, and now this groundbreaking date already, things are moving along just as, or better, than he had hoped.
AUDIO: Things are proceeding even more quickly than we anticipated. We knew that the groundbreaking would be sometime this month, hopefully, and I’m glad that it is. And now full speed ahead, you know, with the hopeful opening next spring.
Yes, this will be a literal ground breaking. Mayor Williams says the folks from Wilmorite Management Group, and Danville Development, LLC; and Golden Nugget do indeed plan to have some shovels out there that day.
AUDIO: As you know, part of the building is being demolished, another part is being saved and restored. But everything, like the parking lot and all of that, will have to come up in order for this project to go forward. And so there will be an area where we’ll actually be turning some dirt together.
And that night at the April 19th Danville City Council meeting, management of the future Golden Nugget Casino will be on the agenda.
AUDIO: Just to give the Council an update on kind of the layout; a new projected timeline in terms of grand opening, and just the next steps of how we get to a final opening date.
The on-site groundbreaking on Tuesday the 19th is set for 2 PM, and the Danville City Council meeting at 6 PM.
