The Indiana Department of Transportation has announced that a 17 mile stretch of Interstate 74 will be resurfaced beginning on or after Monday, April 25th, from the Illinois/Indiana state line to Veedersburg, Indiana; which is about a half-mile east of U.S. 41.
The travel lanes will be restricted to one 11 foot lane in each direction at all hours during this repaving project. For wide loads, there will be a detour for eastbound traffic at State Road 63.
Meanwhile, the Illinois State Police have asked that with the ramp from I-74 West to I-57 South west of Champaign temporariliy closed for construction work, please follow the detour as posted. The detour has vehicles exiting onto I-57 North, going three miles to Market Street (Exit 240, a temporary traffic light is in place), and then able to head back south on I-57.
Several drivers have been disregarding the detour, and remaining on I-74 West to exit at Prairieview Road (Exit 174), and then turning back onto I-74 East to I-57 South. The Prairieview Road exit is not controlled by a traffic light, and this has caused significant and dangerous back-ups.
Please follow posted detour signs. Also, to avoid delays due to any traffic at Prairieview, local traffic to Mahomet should consider exiting at Route 47
