The Danville Area Community College Board of Trustees looked at a variety of issues last week. One was the passage of a new Health Professions Exploration Certificate. Vice-President of Academic Affairs Dr. Carl Bridges says this can benefit DACC students or high school students already taking DACC classes. He says the idea behind the certificate is that if someone thought they wanted to go into nursing, then changed their mind but they still want to be in healthcare somehow, this would continue to give them the overall key components and options for a career as a health professional. Dr. Bridges compared it to something that can happen to business students.
AUDIO: I wanted to be an accountant. But then after I did it for a while I knew I didn’t want to be an accountant, but I did want to stay in business. And so it’s the same concept here. You know, they start in CNA; they say “that’s what I want to do.” After afterwards they think, “no, that’s not what I want to do, but I want to stay in health. I want to stay in the health profession, so how to I do that?” And this course helps them to make that transition.
Meanwhile, the DACC Board of Trustees passed the issuance of $1.5 million dollars in General Obligation Community College Bonds, with about a third of that going to a brand new phone system. As President Dr. Stephen Nacco explains, their current system is modern and digital, but otherwise it’s stuck in neutral.
AUDIO: Well we have a system that really can’t be upgraded, and if parts break it can’t be replaced. So, really replacing the current system with a voiceover internet is going to enable us really to have a reliable, and really a repairable system. And it’s all predicated on bringing in the equipment, and getting through the supply chain problems.
Dr. Nacco says once they do have the equipment, it should be about a seven month installation process.
