Leaders at the OSF Bobette Steely Hegeler Cancer Care Center in Danville are calling a newly installed linear accelerator ‘a game-changer’ in the treatment of patients.

At a Blessing and Dedication ceremony for the equipment, Ned Hill, President of OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, described how the new linear accelerator is different than the Center’s previous one….
{“It’s a more powerful and more accurate linear accelerator. It’s also significantly faster – sometimes from a thirty-minute treatment down to under a two minute treatment, which also makes it a lot safer. So not only is our precision a lot better, so instead of radiating an area that might be two to three inches, now we can do it two to three centimeters or less. And then of course with the additional power and precision, we can do the treatments a lot faster – so less radiation and less negative effects potentially on patients.’’}

Doctor JoMel Labayog (shown here) is a Medical Oncologist who has treated patients at the center for twenty-five years. He noted it is a busy place…
{‘’We see about 350 new cases a year. There’s about 13-thousand patient visits that come through here every year. So this building has a need. This community is here that has really embraced this place. That’s why I love it here so much. The community has embraced it. They have trusted us to take care of the patients who are in need.}
An earlier announced $3-million dollar bequest from the Julius W. Hegeler II Foundation allowed the Cancer Center to upgrade its treatment for patients.
