Next month is June, and that’s going to put us halfway through this inaugural year of First Fridays of the Month activities in Downtown Danville. As Community Relations Administrator Ashton Greer tells us, last Friday’s Sweets in the Streets might have had a few last minute adjustments with the challenging weather, but with a little teamwork, all went pretty well.

AUDIO: The Fischer Theatre was extremely gracious. They opened their doors and let us move several of the activities inside. We didn’t have to cancel much. The bake sale was just moved upstairs at the Fischer. We did have a candy cart. We did a silent auction, with Kayla Dillman’s cakes, which were amazing. And Willie Wonka was played; it was wonderful.
For the next First Friday, June 3rd, Greer says it will definitely be outdoor oriented.
AUDIO: So June is a Summer Bash. Obviously, Summer Sounds is going on. So there’s a beer tent and there’s a live band. But also there’s going to be some really fun activities for the kids. Joyfull Bubbles will be there, and we’re going to have bounce houses. And we’re doing a job fair with Vermilion Advantage, a partnership; and we’ll be featuring local employers. So there’s fun for the kids and fun for the adults; and then also an opportunity for people to learn about the different businesses and employment opportunities in Vermilion County.
And another thing they’ll give another try on June 3rd is the First Friday of the Month Yoga at 5 PM in Kresge Park. They had to postpone it last Friday due to too much water.
