On a sunny Thursday morning in Danville’s Sunset Memorial Park, Danville Police and Vermilion County Sheriff’s Officers were joined by numerous community members and officials in honoring those who gave their lives while protecting the public.
Vermilion County Sheriff Pat Hartshorn talked about the special day.

Audio PlayerAUDIO: It’s a big deal to the officers; remembering the officers that fell in this community. And even though we may not have known them, we understand what they had gone through, and what they were doing to try and protect the community. And we have a huge respect for that.
Speaking briefly during the ceremony was Danville Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr. He talked with us beforehand.

The three officers specifically mentioned during the ceremony: Vermilion County Sheriff Sergeant Myron Deckard, who lost his life in 2001; Danville Police Officer David Farnsworth, who died while serving in 1976; and Danville Police Officer August Lind, who lost his life in 1908.
