A new farmers market, set to go well into the fall, begins this Saturday in Covington. Market Manager Kris Brown says it’s been a while since Covington had a fully established farmers market, and the decision was made to start a new one on Saturdays, on the lawn of the Fountain County Courthouse.
AUDIO: There hasn’t been an organized market in a number of years. There’s just kind of been the opportunity to set up at the Fountain Trust lot on Fridays; there’s no organization to it. Things need to be nurtured for them to grow and thrive. Just looking at the town we thought the courthouse lawn would be great. So we just decided we would take this on and try to make a go of it.
Brown says it’s early yet, so more vendors will be welcome to join the team as more home grown fruits and vegetables become available; just sign up at any time during the year. Baked goods, jams, honey, soaps, and handmade items are planned as well.
The Covington Farmers Market is set to run 9 to 1 every Saturday through October 29th. No cost to participate. Just express your interest with an e-mail to farmersmarketcovington@gmail.com, or a phone call to 765-791-1255.
