Above: Old American Flags Donated to AL Post 210 await proper ceremonial retirement by burning, in front of garden recently donated by Danville High Schools’ Future Problem Solvers.
Tuesday was Flag Day, and American Legion Post 210 held their traditional 10 AM Ceremonial Retirement of American Flags with a proper burning. As Post Commander Dave Morris reminds us, this is the legal way to properly retire American Flags, and the designated mailbox outside Post 210 is available year ’round for citizens to donate old flags for this annual event.

AL 210 Post Commander Dave Morris addresses the audience at start of ceremony.
AUDIO: The flag code says to retire a flag you either bury it or burn it. So we do a nice little ceremony with it. As you can see, we probably have near 1,000 flags over here. We have a mail box out front; a retired postal mailbox out front painted red, white, and blue; and you can put your flags in there.
Morris also mentioned the team effort in putting on the ceremony.

AUDIO: (We have a ) decent amount of the community out, we have the Marine Corps League helping us, we have people here from the VFW helping us; we have our Honor Guard. It’s a nice little ceremony.

American Flags can be donated at Post 210 year ’round for the annual Flag Day Ceremony.
The Flag Day Ceremony at American Legion Post 210 is open to the public every year.
