For the second consecutive month, the jobs picture in the area is showing a turn in the negative direction, this time from April to May. Also, the May level of unemployment for Vermilion County came in as exactly the same compared to May of last year, but better than May of last year for the City of Danville.
In Vermilion County, the unemployment rate rose from 5.8% in April to 6.1% in May. Vermilion County’s rate also stood at 6.1% in May of 2021.
The City of Danville’s jobless rate rose from 5.8 % in April to 6.6% in May. Danville’s rate came in at 7.5% in May of last year.
The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the latest numbers have not been seasonally adjusted.
In Vermilion County, total non-farm employment showed an increase in 300 jobs overall compared to last year. Looking at more specific categories; Leisure and Hospitality, Government, and Manufacturing and Other Services all showed gains of 100 jobs when comparing May of this year to May of last year.
