The Danville Police Department continues their extra Fourth of July Patrols through this coming Tuesday, July 5th. Deputy Chief Terry McCord says they are especially watching for speeding, dangerous, and intoxicated drivers this weekend. Please do your best to keep everyone safe; including, leaving the fireworks to the experts.
AUDIO: We’ll be picking up the patrol over 4th of July Weekend. (We’re) just basically to make sure everybody’s safe; looking out for pedestrians, driving safe, buckling up, staying off the cell phones, and no drinking and driving. (On fireworks:) That’s why they’re illegal. They’re illegal for a reason, they’re dangerous, and you just really have to be careful. Let the professionals do it. They know what they’re doing.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief McCord stated during this past Tuesday night’s City Council Public Services Committee meeting that a handful of storage shed robberies have taken place around the city of late. He says it’s usually robbers taking advantage of unlocked units. So don’t leave anything to chance: Lock your house doors, your car doors, and your storage shed doors at all times.
AUDIO: You have to help yourself out. It really would help to make sure you’re locking everything up. Your cars, your sheds, your houses, your garages, absolutely; better safe than sorry.
More than anything, remember more are out and about during the summer at all hours; all the more reason to keep everything locked.
