Governor
Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Tuesday easily won the Democratic nomination for governor. Pritzker defeated a much lesser-known rival, Beverly Miles, as the billionaire business owner seeks his second term in office. Pritzker will face Sen. Darren Bailey, the GOP candidate who was endorsed by former President Donald Trump. Bailey raised his statewide profile during the pandemic by opposing Pritzker’s COVID-19 measures. He sued Pritzker over a stay-at-home order the governor issued, and was escorted off the floor of the Legislature for refusing to wear a mask.
Secretary of State
In the GOP primary race for Secretary of State, Dan Brady easily defeated opponent John Milhiser. Brady will face Democrat Alexi Giannoulias in November. Giannoulias defeated Anna Valencia, David Moore, and Sidney Moore in his party’s race to fill the seat of retiring Secretary of State, Jesse White.
Attorney General
Thomas Devore, Attorney General candidate in the Republican Primary is the projected winner. Devore defeated opponents Steve Kim and David Shestokas. Devore will face Democratic Incumbent Kwame Raoul in November.
US House 15th District
In the US House, GOP Congresswoman Mary Miller defeated Congressman Rodney Davis in the 15th Congressional District. Davis conceeded the race shortly after 9pm last night, issuing a statement congratulating Miller and President Trump on their victory. Davis said “This was a hard-fought campaign, and I wish her the best in representing the citizens of the 15th District. It’s been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people of Illinois. I’m proud of the work our team has done for our constituents since 2013.”
US House 13th District
In the Democratic primary for the 13th Congressional district, Nicki Budzinski easily defeated opponent David Palmer. Budzinski will face GOP primary projected winner Regan Deering in the 13th Congressional district in November. Deering’s closest opponent, Jesse Reising, conceded to Deering late Tuesday night.
US Senate
Kathy Salvi, a suburban Chicago personal injury lawyer, won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Illinois on Tuesday, topping a field of seven candidates. Salvi, 63, of Mundelein, will take on first-term incumbent Democratic Sen. Tammy Duckworth in November.
IL Senate
In the Republican primary for the IL 54th Senate district, Incumbent Senator Steve McClure easily defeated challenger Don Debolt.
IL House
In the primary for the 96th Il House seat, Lisa Smith defeated Prescott Paulin. Smith will face Incumbent Sue Scherer in November.
Macon County Sheriff
Macon County Sheriff Jim Root handily defeated opponent Cody Moore in the Republican primary for Macon County Sheriff. Root. It’s a bit of redemption for Root. In the 2018 election, Root’s opponent Tony Brown was declared the winner and sworn into office, until 2021 when Root was sworn in after his victory was upheld by a judge.
Macon County Board
In the Macon County Board District 4, projected primary winners include Republicans Ed Yoder, Kevin Greenfield and Ryan Kreke. They will face Democrat board members Marcy Rood and Patricia Dawson in November.
In County Board District 5, Debra Kraft, Greg Mattingley, and Linda Little were the top three vote recipents and will face democrat board member Shad Edwards in November.
