Another year of BALLOONS OVER VERMILION is set for begin at 3 PM Friday afternoon at Vermilion Regional Airport, and Danville Visitors Bureau Executive Director Jeanie Cooke says she is not surprised one bit that this event has grown into such an amazing tradition.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Remember that this began as Oldsmobile Balloon Classic Illinois. So it’s been going on for many, many years. It’s such a loved staple. It’s like it wouldn’t be summer without Balloons Over Vermilion; and all the wonderful things it does for the charities it supports.
Cooke says that as this event has expanded, into such a celebration of aviation and fun; everyone from BOV’s Jim Anderson and Pat O’Shaughnessy to all of their staff, just continues to grow.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: If you don’t learn something every year, then your event doesn’t last very long. We have a very good mix of people that have been involved from the very beginning; and then we have an influx every year of new young, exited people that love the community and want to get involved. It’s got a fresh look every year.
Jeanie Cooke calls this “an enormous team effort that takes EVERYONE, and sometimes takes EVERYONE TWICE.” Balloons Over Vermilion runs 3 PM to 11 PM Friday, and 1 PM to 11 PM Saturday.
