THE FOLLOWING IS A VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY’S OFFICE RELEASE
On April 26, 2022, Finch was convicted by a Vermilion County Jury of one count of Possession of Methamphetamine (Class 1 Felony). This charge is punishable by probation or 4–15 years in Illinois Department of Corrections followed by 1 year of mandatory supervised release.
During the course of the trial evidence was presented that on June 30, 2021, Edward Finch got high on liquid methamphetamine to a point of incoherence and delusions. Despite that, Finch drove around the country roads of Vermilion County, winding up on the driveway of a random resident, when Finch attempted to break into the home through the garage. Then, Finch wandered out onto the front lawn. Finch was with another person in his vehicle when confronted by the residence, and he spouted nonsense about some type of bank injunction against the property owner. The resident called police. The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived they immediately recognized Finch, as someone who was on parole. Finch had been released from prison for possession of methamphetamine, one month prior. At the time of the confrontation with deputies Finch was seated in his vehicle. He was placed under arrest and on the armrest was approximately 80 grams of methamphetamine.
After a sentencing hearing on June 30, 2022, Circuit Judge Charles Hall was made aware of the Finch‘s extensive criminal history, as well as other factors in aggravation and mitigation. Judge Hall sentenced Finch to 10 years in Illinois Department of Corrections.
“We are thankful for the precise police work by the members of the Vermilion County Sheriff‘s Department as well as the Vermilion Metropolitan Enforcement Group and all the efforts taken in order to ensure dangerous drugs and drug dealers are removed from our community,” stated State‘s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy.
