Although the rain at the end of last week and into the weekend put a damper on Balloons Over Vermilion, Vermilion County farmers pretty much received exactly what they needed when they needed it. Tom Fricke from the Vermilion County Farm Bureau says this time it was more widespread rainfall, although not exactly that same amount every single place.
AUDIO: It was a little more widespread. The amounts still varied, but I do think everybody got something; which will certainly be welcome. And we’ll just keep looking for that next one.
And as for corn that’s trying to pollinate, Fricke says the rain’s timing was good; as least for the corn that’s ready.
AUDIO: I mean there’s a lot of fields that aren’t close to pollinating yet because of the late planting season. So we just hope that this seasonable weather continues, and that we have those ideal conditions when all the fields are pollinating.
At this point, the next solid chance for rain (after Monday evening) appears to be Saturday night.
