Next Tuesday’s Danville City Council meeting may have a pretty busy agenda. First, there’s the possible vote on a new salary plan for the Danville mayor, Danville treasurer, and the aldermen. But the Public Works Committee has pushed a couple things of note to the full council. One is another attempted compromise on allowing residents to park their campers in their driveways. Basically, they would be allowed in driveways if the campers are sitting 15 feet from both the nearest street and nearest sidewalk.
The committee passed this 3 to 1, with the overall consensus that this is not perfect, but it’s an attempt at a compromise for improvement. But Michael O’Kane voted against it; saying that, for one thing, there is not adequate personnel when it comes to enforcement.
AUDIO: There’s more opportunities to cause more problems, and I don’t think we can settle the problems fast enough now. If we could have somebody like a part-time police officer come and tell them to move it, and timely; because the inspectors don’t have the ability to come back the next day or the next two or three days.
Then, there’s the issue previously brought up by former Public Works Director Doug Ahrens. He had stated the city’s policy on those already drawing an IMRF pension and working for the city in an elected position does not match the actual IMRF policy. In a nutshell, Ahrens says IMRF has told him in writing that someone drawing an IMRF pension can indeed, after being retired for 60 days, take a city position that is not identical to an elected position he or she is retired from, and still draw a regular salary. Danville’s Corporation Counsel spokesperson stated he has been told by IMRF that there ARE additional restrictions to drawing a full municipal salary while taking an IMRF pension. Ahrens spoke with us after the meeting.

AUDIO: Well anything’s possible. I certainly have a written confirmation, and would hope that that is also what they would rely upon. There’s an easy solution to this; make the language match the state statute.
Next week’s Danville City Council meeting is Tuesday, July 19th, at 6 PM.
