ORIGINAL STORY FROM EARLIER THIS WEEK, By Bill Picket:
Some students are headed back to school Wednesday at Northeast Elementary Magnet School in Danville. Meanwhile, across town work is advancing on the demolition of Cannon Elementary School along East Main Street.
Some citizens – including former students and teachers at Cannon – have been stopping by occasionally to watch the action. One former teacher there described the demolition Tuesday as ‘’sad, very sad.’’
There has been no announcement yet on when a time capsule will be opened which was found recently in the cornerstone of Cannon School. Former student Alice Pollock says she believes items inside the time capsule likely date back around 100 years.
