This week’s ‘I Am, You Are, We Are Vermilion County’ honoree is 24-year-old Emily Duncan. Vermilion Advantage announces the winners each week.
Duncan’s roots in Vermilion County go back over 200 years. ‘’As a farm family, where you plant your roots is where you stay,’’ said Emily. Her family lives in Rossville and farms in the Potomac Area. As she works as an Assistant Vice-President and Loan Officer at Iroquois Federal, Duncan continues to live the farming life alongside her family.
‘’My dad always says that growing up playing in the dirt keeps you grounded,’’ said Emily. She plans to further her career and start a family here, adding it’s ‘’a great place to raise kids.’’
Duncan’s father is Vermilion County Treasurer Darren Duncan.
‘’I think the people of VC (Vermilion County) generally have a heart for helping others – the kindness and hospitality that people show each other. Bad golf breeds bad golf – surround yourself with people who you want to be,’’ said Emily. She is involved in several organizations – including serving on the Danville Noon Rotary board, the Kiwanis board, Balloons Over Vermilion steering committee, Festival of Trees committee. Emily also serves on the YMCA finance committee, and St. James United Methodist Church International Faith development committee. She also is currently a student in the Vermilion Advantage Leadership Tomorrow program, volunteers with Meals on Wheels at CRIS Healthy Aging Center and St. James Food Pantries, and also volunteers with the Young Professionals Network.
