A special meeting is set for 2 to 3 PM Thursday afternoon, in the Hope Center at the Fair Oaks housing complex. It will focus on the partnership between Danville District 118, the Hope Center, and the University of Illinois summer program focused on student social-emotional development. The U of I’s Dr. Kevin Tan says one thing that will definitely be talked about is feedback from students on what they need.
AUDIO: And this is where the kids are learning about social skills; they’re also learning about themselves. They are also learning about their identity; what they would like to see change in a community.
Tan says this will also feature student performances, such as songs or photo and voice displays to communicate their concerns.
AUDIO: They’ll be showcasing songs; they’ll be showcasing artwork. And more importantly, they will be doing photo-voice exhibitions. This is where we have asked young people to show us pictures that represent their identity; their belonging.
Danville Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr is scheduled to speak. Delrice Adams, the Executive Director of the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority, will be personally attending the event as well. The Fair Oaks Hope Center is located at 1607 Clyman Lane.
