A building once used for community activities is coming alive again this weekend. The Elmwood Community Playground and Civic Group is hosting a 10 AM to 2 PM open house Saturday, at the newly named Owen Nelson Community Center, 210 Victory Street in Danville. Speakers, games, and a light lunch are scheduled; and opportunities for the public to use this remodeled building will be discussed.
Rufus Nelson recalls how the building was once used for things like sewing and computer classes. And with it now being fixed up and named after his mom, Owen Nelson; he wants the city to know this community center is there; for a wide variety of needs.
AUDIO: The building’s going to be used for different things; such as counseling sessions, baby showers. Whatever you need, where you’d go to the civic center and rent a room and all that kind of stuff. It’s going to be set up to be used for those kind of purposes; Bible study, etcetera.
Danville Major Rickey Williams, Jr is scheduled to speak during Saturday’s open house, at 11:45.
