Danville retirement community Liberty Village has been working on a major project, the reprogramming of their Memory Lane Unit, since before the pandemic. And with Thursday afternoon’s ribbon cutting, the project is officially complete. Administrator Dacri Dreher explains.
AUDIO: So what we’ve done is we have taken individualized programming for each one of our residents, and created specific programming to meet their abilities. We want them to be able to maintain the current function they have for as long as possible.
Liberty Village Administrator Darci Dreher and Special Care Coordinator Kimberly Leloup address the audience during Thursday’s dedication.
Dreher says if you give someone fighting Alzheimer’s a project or activity that they cannot handle, that can bring about a negative reaction. And as Specialized Care Coordinator for the Memory Lane Unit Kimberly Leloup states, treating one individual at a time is the key to this Memory in Motion program.
AUDIO: The new improved Memory Lane; it’s fitness for the mind. We’re truly excited to provide this programming for our residents. It’s based on each person, and the levels that they are currently at.
State Rep Mike Marron, Danville’s Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr; and Vermilion Advantage President/CEO Tim Dudley take their turns speaking prior to the ribbon cutting for Liberty Village’s reprogrammed Memory Lane Unit.
State Rep Mike Marron was in attendance, saying it’s great to see important projects just like this, delayed by the distraction of the pandemic, finally come to fruition.
AUDIO: It’s going to be such an incredible asset to the community; something that will enhance the quality of life for people that struggle with memory loss. I think a lot of things that were affected by the pandemic; it’s great to see that we’re kind of getting back on track.
Danville mayor Rickey Williams, Jr agreed. During the dedication, he recalled a special moment concerning someone with memory loss. And spoke beforehand about the asset this updated program will be.
AUDIO: This is something that’s very needed in our community, so it’s great to see them providing this additional service. And they’re known for providing quality care, and it’s great that they’ll be providing this as well.
Liberty Village is located just off Liberty Lane on the north side of Danville, at 3222 Independence Drive.
