Harvest time is coming up, and a Market Outlook Meeting is taking place Tuesday evening, August 16th, at the Vermilion County Farm Bureau Auditorium. The USDA came out with their latest crop report this past Friday, staying steady with their call for a solid but not record breaking corn crop; but being even more optimistic on how the soybeans will turn out this fall. Farm Bureau spokesperson Tom Fricke explains.
AUDIO: Sixty-six bushels per acre for an Illinois soybean yield, which is up two bushels from last year. And if the projections hold true, that would set new records for both yields per acre and total bushels at 732 million bushels here in Illinois.
Fricke says, this USDA report is a big one because they’re going right to the source.
AUDIO: The August report is the first one that actually uses farmers’ surveys. They’ve gone to the people out in the fields and got a first hand look at what is actually happening out on the farms.
Fricke takes a look at Tuesday evening’s roster of guests at the Market Outlook Meeting.
AUDIO: We have Curt Kimmel coming with Agri-Marketing, talking about what impact the August crop report and the numbers revealed in that report will have on the markets going into harvest. We also have a couple of local elevator personnel; Greg Russell with Stewart Grain in Bismarck, and Lane Avenatti with Premier Cooperative. And then the big factor in agriculture over the last year has been fertilizer pricing. And so Samantha Harper with Helena will be on hand.
The program Tuesday evening begins at 6:30. The Vermilion County Farm Bureau located at 1905 U S Route 150, west of Danville.
