Over the next two construction seasons, the Danville Sanitary District will be putting a $260,000 grant from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to work. The district is working on Phase Two of their 2035 StrategicCaptial plan; a 40 to 50 million dollar improvement program planned for over the next decade.
Danville Sanitary District director Doug Ahrens says this grant will be used for maximum efficiency blowers for their wastewater treatment plant; a part of the DSD-2035 plan’s 20 million dollar second phase.
AUDIO: We had applied for this. One of the critical elements for our wastewater treatment plant is keeping enough air in what’s called our aeration tanks, which is how the microbes, the bugs that clean out the water, function.
The long run plan for Phase Two also calls for the sanitary district to transfer its Allied Sewer Line, which runs from from Brewer Road to South Daisy Lane, over to the city. The district will continue to maintain Lick Creek and Stony Creek interceptors, which collect all wastewater from the city and discharge at the Treatment Plant.
The Danville Sanitary District is primarily funded by user fees.
