THE FOLLOWING ARE VERMILION COUNTY STATE’S ATTORNEY RELEASES
People v. Pierre Miller 2021CF247
Pierre Miller, formerly of Danville, Illinois, was sentenced to six and a half years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of Domestic Battery – Subsequent Offense, a class two felony. The sentence shall be followed by four years of Mandatory Supervised Release (i.e., Parole). Miller was sentenced as a class two felon because he had at least four prior Domestic Battery convictions.
On August 24, 2022, Circuit Judge Charles Hall sentenced Miller upon hearing evidence establishing that on May 7, 2021 Pierre Miller was at the victim‘s home and an argument ensued. Miller then grabbed the victim by the neck, choking her. The victim got away from Miller, but the abuse continued when Miller threw the victim to the ground, held her down, and took her phone away. The victim left her residence while yelling for help when she saw a neighbor walking by who allowed her to use their phone to call 911. Officers arrived and observed evidence of strangulation around the victim‘s neck.
State‘s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy expressed her appreciativeness of the victim‘s courage in this case; including her prompt reporting of Miller‘s crimes. The State‘s Attorney also thanked the Danville Police Department for their work on this case and noted that their combined efforts and cooperation helped ensure that a violent abuser will spend time behind bars.
People v. Corlando Lewis 2019–CF–728
Corlando Lewis, formerly of Danville, Illinois, was sentenced to ten and a half years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, a Class 2 Felony, which is punishable from three to fourteen years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. This sentence will be followed by one year of Mandatory Supervised Release (i.e., Parole).
On August 24, 2022, Circuit Judge Charles Hall heard evidence establishing that around eleven o‘clock in the morning on April 4, 2021, a number of concerned citizens reported hearing shots fired in the 100 block of Pennsylvania Street. A description of the suspect and the vehicle the suspect was driving was provided to 911. Corlando Lewis was subsequently located by Danville Police wearing clothing matching the description that had been provided by witnesses. Through the course of the investigation, Danville Police obtained witness statements and security videos from the area of the shooting, and Corlando Lewis was identified as the shooter.
State‘s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the good citizens, and the Danville Police Department for their quick response in this case and noted that their efforts helped to ensure that a violent repeat offender is serving a substantial sentence in prison.
People v. Timothy Sutton 2022–CF-088
On August 18, 2022, Vermilion County Circuit Judge Charles Hall sentenced Timothy Sutton. formerly of Danville, Illinois, to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the offense of Domestic Battery – Strangulation, a Class 2 Felony. This sentence will be followed by four years of Mandatory Supervised Release (i.e., Parole).
The Court heard evidence that on February 24, 2022. Timothy Sutton violently attacked two victims. The victims were returning home, in Danville, when they were attacked by Sutton with a hammer. The victims made attempts to get away from Sutton, but he swung the hammer and threatened to kill the victims. Eventually, the victims were able to get away and run to a neighbor‘s home. The neighbor took both victims in and made them safe while they waited for Danville Police to arrive. Miller ultimately caused multiple injuries to both victims, as well as property damage.
