It was a great moment Friday morning, with Labor Day Weekend just getting underway, over in the Danville City Council chambers. Numerous Danville Firefighters were there to witness Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr swear in David Ramirez as a new Probationary Firefighter. Ramirez stated afterwards that he’s been thinking about this for a long time, and happy to do something special for his hometown.

AUDIO: I was born in Northern Illinois, but I’ve lived here most of my life. I went to DHS, and it was time to give back to the community.
For Fire Chief Don McMasters, it’s always important to be recruiting personnel for the future. And there will soon be information on future testing to become a Danville Firefighter.
AUDIO: And we will be very soon, hopefully in the next couple of weeks, putting out the application; putting it on the web site as well as on our Facebook page, and other forms of media, to get the knowledge out to everyone. We are going to start taking applications to begin the testing process again for new hires to the fire department.
Chief McMasters says Ramirez conveniently replaces someone who recently left for another fire department; giving him a full staff right now, except for three currently sidelined with injuries.
