Events at Danville’s David S. Palmer Arena are continuing on schedule as the search begins for a new general manager. Bill Pickett has more…
The Arena Board appointed Teri Gaffney the interim manager during their meeting Tuesday evening. She replaces Joe Dunagan who was terminated earlier. Gaffney has been the Director of Human Resources at the Palmer Arena for the past year. She earlier worked for 30 years at OSF Medical Center in Danville and Urbana as assistant to the president.
Gaffney says she is impressed with the way employees have stepped up to help following Dunagan’s departure. And she adds all events scheduled at the Palmer Arena are proceeding on schedule.
The Palmer Arena board last night (Tuesday) also:
- Approved Dean Shore as the interim board chairman replacing John Spezia who earlier submitted a letter of resignation;
- Approved a $150,000 loan agreement with Iroquois Federal. One-hundred-thousand will be used to fund a major upgrade for a cover over the ice, while the other fifty-thousand dollars will be used as a line of credit.
- Heard that the new ice cover will not be in place in time for the upcoming Kiwanis Pancake Day, however the top layer of ice will be removed and the remaining surface will be covered with tarps underneath carpeting.
- Heard plans are advancing for upgrades to signs in both the front of the building and the ice-skating entrance. The signs will note the Julius W. Hegeler II Ice Center is inside.
