We are now a week into some additional routes on the Danville Mass Transit lines, and Director Lisa Beith says feedback from both riders and drivers has been very positive. One addition was two more Danville to Champaign trips. As Beith explains, this was to give folks that have business in Champaign more flexibility.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Critical times at 10:20 in the morning and 2:20 in the afternoon, which opens up a few more possibilities for people going back and forth to doctors appointments and so forth. So all the feedback we’ve had has been very positive; the drivers are very happy to have all those services back running.
There used to be seven daily Champaign trips Monday through Friday before COVID. Then it was knocked down to three, back to five now; with three still on Saturday. Saturday does, however, have demand response areas for those living in the Douglas Park, Heights South Danville, and Tilton areas.
In addition, there are the five new trips out to Lynch Road, which is a huge convenience for those who work different shifts in the area.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: We were running the Lynch Road every other hour. So we were running on the even hours, and we kind of had a couple of trips in a row at the beginning of the service day and at the end of the service day. But throughout the middle of the day we were only running every two hours; which meant that people were stranded when they got done with their jobs. So that’s been a tremendous help.
Beith pointed out that not only will the additional Lynch Road routes help future workers at the Golden Nugget Casino, it will also help future workers at the Fed Ex facility, since Danville Mass Transit stops nearby at SYGMA.
