The 48th Viking Invitational Marching Band Contest is set for Saturday (October 1st, 2022) at Danville High School. Ryan Krapf, Director of Bands at DHS, is impressed with the students who are involved…
{AUDIO: ‘’We have three rehearsals each week, sometimes on Saturdays as well. Band of Vikings is a voluntary group – all outside the school day. …We share kids between athletics, and marching band and show choir. We’ve got quite the variety of kids out here. They work really hard the three days a week they’re out here practicing, and also on days that we perform.’’}
(Krapf talked with Neuhoff Media’s Bill Pickett at a practice session this week.)
The competition is Saturday afternoon at Danville High School…
{AUDIO: ‘’The first band’s on at 4:30, and Band of Vikings will be on about 7:45. We got nine competing groups this year. And, yow we’re looking forward to it. We’ve got a couple different groups we haven’t had here for awhile, so we’re looking forward to that, too.’’}
Some of the bands participating include Casey-Westfield, Champaign Centennial, Unity, Lincoln, Paxton Buckley-Loda, and St. Joe Ogden. The host Band of Vikings will perform in exhibition only at about 7:45 p.m.
And if you plan to go, Krapf outlined the admission information…
{AUDIO: ‘’Adults are ten-dollars this year, and seniors and K-12 students are seven (dollars). Gates will open between 3 (o’clock) and 3-fifteen.}
Class A bands will perform first, followed by a break for dinner. Then the Class 2-A, 3-A and 4-A bands will perform after dinner.
{The photos were taken this week as the Band of Vikings held one of their training sessions. Danville High School senior Mirabella Biage is the drum major and is shown leading the training along with Krapf.}
