Danville, September 30, 2022 – After 27 years of service, Chief Donald E. McMasters has announced that he plans to retire on November 29, 2022. The City of Danville would like to congratulate Chief Donald E. McMasters on his retirement!
Chief McMasters was first hired by the City on August 23, 1995. Several years later in 2001, he was promoted to Lieutenant. 10 years later he became Captain. In 2018, he was promoted to Assistant Chief, and finally stepped into his current role as Fire Chief on March 3, 2020.
In addition to his consistent advancements, he completed courses on the subjects of Rope and Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue and Structural Collapse Rescue, and he is Fire Inspector and Fire Investigator Certified.
Chief McMasters served the Danville Fire Department diligently with integrity and honor. He has been consistently committed to serving the citizens of Danville, and we extend our gratitude for his many years of service with the Danville Fire Department.
extra: Chief McMasters told Neuhoff Media that he was thinking of working another 2 1/2 years, but a family decision came to the conclusion to retire this year.
AUDIO: Many, many, many conversations between my wife and I; and the stress involved with the job and everything else to go with it. We just determined now is the time. I turn 50 in December, and I’m eligible for retirement at that point.
