It’s been a couple years, due to the pandemic, but this Saturday the Otto Newlin Shooting Range in Georgetown is returning to a tradition they started back in 2013: a special dinner to thank our Veterans. Ken West from the Otto Newlin Range says they’ve served as many as 200 Veterans in the past. But since it all began in 2013, many Veterans who used to come have passed away. West says they’d love to have new Veterans as well as returnees come this year, and that between 35 to 50 volunteers will make it all possible.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: We have a lot of young ones, old ones, and everybody’s treated equally. We got 4H kids who come, we got the Boy Scouts who come. They do the presentation of the colors on the flag, and then we do a prayer, and TAPS, and the food they get. And this whole thing, the great thing about it is there’s not one person paid.
If you are a Veteran and you’d like to attend the dinner at the Otto Newlin Shooting range this Saturday, just call 217-597-8504. Doors will open at 4:15, and the dinner starts at 5. The range address, by the way, is 6137 County Road 1520 East in Georgetown.
