As you glance north on Vermilion in Danville from the Liberty Lane intersection, two changes in how it looks are coming; but probably one before the other. On the east side, just north of Steak N Shake; Community Development Administrator Logan Cronk has confirmed that Squirrel’s Real Eastate from Texas has purchased the Montana Mike’s site, with plans to build a Smitty’s Car Wash. Cronk says, most likely, the Montana Mikes building will be torn down by the end of the year.
But one little thing that had to be done first, forwarded by the City Council Public Works Committee Tuesday night, was to officially vacate two old, no longer visible alleyways on the Montana Mike’s location. Cronk says some old streets on the site were vacated perhaps back in the 1920s, but the alleyways stayed on the records, and were discovered by the latest survey work.
AUDIO: After all these years, all these replats, the surveyors have not shown these alleys in any subdivision plats we’ve seen in the area. (And the only way we knew they were there was on the paperwork, right?)…Was on this new survey completed by the new buyer of the property.
Meanwhile, across the street and a tiny bit south of there, the question is: When is the old Fagen Auto Parts coming down? Kronk says preliminary work has been done for the planned two new businesses on the property. And the Fagen building should be coming down, eventually.
AUDIO: We’re hoping to see Fagen’s demolished by the end of 2023. We do not have confirmation of the new build for that site yet, or a building permit; but we have completely completed all engineering review processes and building processes for the site to construct two new buildings on that site, whenever they’re ready.
New Lease Development from Fort Worth, Texas has plans to put up both a 7-Brew drive-thru coffee shop, and a Take 5 Oil Change location.
