The Project Success Lights on Afterschool Rally is set for this Friday. Project Success Assistant Director Kimberly David says this is all about showing the importance of funding for after school programs. She says “Lights on Afterschool” has been going on nationwide, with lots of activities already taking place in Vermilion County. But this annual rally, a Project Success partnership with the YMCA and Central Christian Church, will drive the point home even more.
AUDIO: We’ll start out at the YMCA from 5 to 5:30. We’re going to have a special speaker. Chris Patterson is the Assistant Secretary for the Department of Human Services Office of Firearm Violence Prevention. He’s going to come talk, and say a few words to our families.
A proclamation from Senator Scott Bennett is scheduled to be read as well. Kimberly David points out that after the reception at the “Y”, the YMCA and Central Christian Church parking lots will be working together for the Trunk or Treat.
AUDIO: Families can come out. They can come out to the reception part where we have the speakers from 5 to 5:30, we’re going to have some prizes. And then after at 5:30, we’ll have a Trunk or Treat event that’s going to be in the parking lots of Central Christian Church and the YMCA. So they can bring their kids out, dress for Halloween; come and get candy and some goodies. It’s going to be a fun event.
Project Success was established as a county-wide agency in 1998, as the umbrella for services with children and families in need. It currently serves over 1,300 students at 18 sites. For more on the Lights On Afterschool rally, go to www.afterschoolalliance.org.
