An investigation continues into a tragic Saturday evening crash near Homer that claimed three lives and left a fourth person hurt. Champaign County Coroner Duane Northrup identified the dead as 38-year-old Daniel J. Albers of Fairmount, who Northrup said was the driver of the sole vehicle involved, and passengers Lucas S. Bohlen, 36, of Ogden and Mathew Drake, 38, of Saint Joseph.
All three men were pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 6:30 p.m. after the vehicle in which they were traveling left Homer Lake Road and struck a building and then a tree. A fourth man in the vehicle was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana where information on his condition was unavailable. Other information on that man was also not available.
Champaign County Sheriff’s Police and an Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit are continuing their investigation into the crash, along with the Champaign County Coroner’s Office.
Autopsies on those killed were set for Tuesday, November 1st, and Coroner Northrup said an inquest may be held later.
