November is Homeless Awareness Month. And during the upcoming Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week, Crosspoint Human Services will be having a special luncheon at their “Crosspoint at the Y” location, 201 North Hazel at the old YWCA. The luncheon will be held from 11 to 2, Wednesday November 16th, in the Crosspoint at the Y gym. As Crosspoint’s Cher Pollock told Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection program, many victims of homelessness are those who are victims of domestic abuse, and perhaps have just escaped a domestic abuse situation.
AUDIO: This will be our annual luncheon that we’ve put on for many years with the Vermilion County Continuum of Care members, which is all of the agencies in the county that serve the homeless; that come in contact with the homeless. And so anybody who is homeless or is in need of a hot meal is welcome to come. We’ll have soup. We’ll have sandwiches. We always have great desserts made for us by members of the community.
Pollock also talked about services provided to domestic violence victims in the Crosspoint Transitional Housing Program.
AUDIO: You’re going to get a lot of care coordination services. Where we’re going to help you apply for benefits, find a job, find some affordable housing. Maybe you left your birth certificate behind, or your driver’s license is lost. Any of those things, we’re going to help them.
And if you’d like to make donations to help those being served by Crosspoint Human Services during the holidays, Pollock says please call Linda McLaughlin at 217-446-1217.
