During this Veterans Day Week, Laura Williams spoke to Phil Hess from the Ernie Pyle Museum in Dana, Indiana on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection. Hess recalled how Ernie Pyle knew he did not want to be a farmer, found journalism at Indiana University, went to work for Scripps Howard, and took his traveling column to a new level during World War II.
AUDIO: When the war broke out in Europe, it was kind of an extension of his traveling and writing about whatever he thought was interesting. He covered ‘The Blitz,’ the German bombing of London. And when the United States entered the war, he started following GIs, in all branches and all job circumstances.
The Ernie Pyle Museum can be reached at 765-665-3084.
