As we get closer to Veterans Day, there’s something special you could be doing Friday evening November 11th. And that would be, stop by the Recovery Center at 2500 Georgetown Road. Sleepout for the Homeless is being held there that night, with registration starting at 5 PM. As the Center’s Wendy Lambert reminds us, they are there not only to help those recovering from addiction, but also those that need help improving their lives; and might need some assistance with things like money management or finding employment. And those that need that kind of assistance do include Veterans. In addition to offering the chance to learn what it’s like to be homeless and sleep outside at night, Wendy Lambert says this is also a chance to learn about the Recovery Center. She says, please come by and see what they do.

AUDIO: They’re welcome to come by at anytime, not just on the 11th and 12th, but at anytime. We have the sink set up where we can wash people’s hair. If you’re homeless, it great being helped, but much better you fell if someone takes the time to trim your nails or wash your hair; gives you a new pair of socks. We have the computer set up where we can help people find jobs.
Those who stop by and those who participate are welcome to offer any donation to the Recovery Center that they wish, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Midwest Veterans Association. Once again, stop by to register at 5 PM and start putting your cardboard box together if you are participating. An evening meal and a meal the next morning will be offered.
