THE FOLLOWING IS A DANVILLE SYMPHONY RELEASE
The DSO announced today that tickets for its performance of Tchaikovsky’s timeless holiday classic, The Nutcracker, are now on sale.
The Nutcrackerwill take place at 3pm on Sunday, December 18th in the Dick Van Dyke Auditorium at Danville High School, which offers expansive seating and a broad stage with new state-of-the-art sight and sound technology. The orchestra welcomes back the Springfield Ballet Company with its full cast of professional dancers, stunning costumes, and magical sets. As before, Maestro Jeremy Swerling will conduct the full orchestra—this year the only Nutcracker in the region to be performed to live music.
The DSO announced that ticket prices are set at the following: A Section $45 adults, $15 under 18 and B Section $35, $10 under 18. Groups of 10 or more qualify for a 20% discount. To express appreciation for existing season ticket subscribers, the DSO is offering a 50% discount: “This year we chose to offer our season subscribers a discount for the Nutcracker performance as a thank you for their steadfast support and commitment to bringing the love of professional orchestral music to our community.” (Supply chain issues in the renovation of the DHS auditorium, in turn, delayed the release of DSO Nutcracker tickets this year.)
Local children will be participating in the production once again. Laurel Soderstrom of Laurel School of Dance comments that 40dance students and their families from Danville and the surrounding area are truly excited about the upcoming performance.
The Nutcrackerballet is performed live in Danville with full orchestra about every four years and this will be the second performance with the Springfield Ballet Company. Ballet Executive Director Scott Raper indicated that the company is thrilled to be returning to Danville to perform with the DSO, especially since the performance is with a live, full orchestra, which they sorely miss in their local performances in Springfield. “It’s pretty amazing that the DSO has the support it needs to stage such a large production with a full symphony.”
Maestro Swerling, who is in his 27th and final season as DSO Music Director, stated,“This is my fourth or maybe fifthNutcracker, and I love every note of it. To be able to mount this production every four years for the community is very gratifying, especially around the holidays. My favorite scene is when that gigantic Christmas tree rises. Between the great dancing, fabulous sets, lighting, and wonderful music, it’s just a tremendous thrill.”
The performance is dedicated to the generosity of “symphony angel” Julius W. Hegeler II, whose foundation of the same name now helps to underwrite the annual DSO holiday concert and supports the DSO Foundation year round.
