After nearly a quarter-century of service to the Danville Fire Department, Captain Aaron Marcott has been named as the new Danville Fire Chief to replace the retiring Chief Don McMasters.
Marcott, born in Watseka and a 1993 graduate of Rossville-Alvin High School, says he always wanted to be a firefighter. And then, gradually over the years, the thought of becoming a fire chief began to grow.
Captain Aaron Marcott awaits the announcement from Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr that he has been named the new Chief of the Danville Fire Department.
AUDIO: I got my education pretty early. I think initially, really, I just wanted to be a fireman, really. My lifetime goal was to be a firefighter. And then, from then, just as I’ve grown as an adult I guess or as I’ve gone through the fire service, it became more and more of sort of a goal to move towards this.
Captain Marcott says, he respects how the community holds firefighters in high regard, and why.
AUDIO: I hope to have our fire service be one that completely takes in the public’s consideration. We try to be really supportive of them when they’re having their worst day, basically. But I think it’s just the overall kindness that I think firefighters show to families and kids; and just the appreciation for the work we do.
Chief Don McMasters’ final day is Tuesday, November 29th. Captain Aaron Marcott will take over as Danville Fire Chief on Wednesday, November 30th.
