The Vermilion County Board has approved the sale of some of the parcels to the City of Danville that had been scheduled to go to a delinquent tax auction. But County Board Chairman Larry Baughn notes that not all the parcels the city wants are being sold…
AUDIO: What the board decided tonight was that the items that weren’t sold to the city last month, that were pulled, they have now voted to sell to the city of Danville any property that had a structure. Now vacant lots were also a part of what the city wanted to buy from the tax sale. I don’t think that it’s the intention that they won’t be sold to the city. The think the intention is that the board wanted a little bit more information moving forward about those vacant lots.
County Board member Jerry Hawker had complained last month about over 120 parcels which were pulled from the delinquent tax auction because the City of Danville wanted to purchase them.
Also during Tuesday night’s meeting the County Board approved its new budget and tax levy. (You can see another story on Vermilioncountyfirst.com for more information on the budget and levy.)
And the County Board approved spending some ARPA (American Rescue Plan Act) money to purchase body cameras for sheriff’s deputies. County Board Chairman Larry Baughn noted the county has received $14.3 million dollars in ARPA funds and thus far has spent about $2.5 million dollars of it. He says the county has received several requests from villages seeking some of that money….
AUDIO: We’ve got, I think we said, $4.7 million dollars in requests out there, from some of the local villages and towns. We just need to sit down. It was just hard to do during; of course we changed our payroll, and then doing the raises to all of our staff members. And then as soon as we were done with that it was budget time. So we just got kind of convoluted with that. And now it’s time to take a step back and start looking at the ARPA funds again.
The county must allocate all of the ARPA money by the end of 2024.
