After a semester of numerous complains and frustrations about busing services, the Danville District 118 School Board has decided to go to bid and try to find a replacement for First Student. Assistant Superintendent John Hart asked for the motion during Wednesday night’s board meeting, and it was granted. Hart says he’s hoping for bids from companies all over the state that might be interested in bringing operations to Danville.
AUDIO: We’re not satisfied with the services that we’re getting from First Student. We really are looking for someone that can step up the game. They’re short employees. Again, our routes are running late and we really have to step up. Our kids need to be in school. They’re already far enough behind, you know, with the pandemic. So we’re going to go out and we what everyone has to offer.
The current contract with First Student is just for this school year.

Danville High School Wall of Fame Committee Chairman Mark Bacys unveils this year’s honorees to the District 118 School Board.
Meanwhile, Danville High School Athletic Director Mark Bacys, who also happens to chair the DHS Wall of Fame Committee, has announced the two new Wall of Fame honorees. They are 1969 graduate Lieutenant Colonel Dennis Fay, who attended the Air Force Academy and had a distinguished career that led to working on Air Force One; and 1981 graduate and valedictorian Dr. Kimberly Kidwell, who’s had a remarkable career in Agricultural Science, at both Washington State University and the U of I. Bacys says, making the selections is always a challenge.
AUDIO: It’s always amazing to see the quality of candidates and the number of candidates that we get as the applications come in. Then the difficult work begins. We have to sort through all the information, and pick the candidates that the committee thinks are the best.
The induction date will be sometime in May.
