UPDATE SINCE ORIGINAL STORY: As of Tuesday morning, the one additional person to filed signed petition packets was Ward 5 incumbent Eve Ludwig.
Candidates were out early Monday as the filing period began for next year’s Danville City Council election. Two candidates had filed for the mayor’s job as of mid-Monday morning. They were incumbent Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr and challenger Jackie Vinson.
Others who had filed included:

For Ward 1 Alderman….Ed Bulter and Alesis “Lisa” Ford
For Ward 2 Alderman….Rick Strebing
For Ward 3 Alderman….Sharon Pickering
For Ward 4 Alderman….William Michael O’Kane
For Ward 5 Alderman….no candidates had filed yet.
For Ward 6 Alderman….Jon Cooper
For Ward 7 Alderman….Bob Iverson
Numerous other potential candidates have picked up packets at the Danville Election Commission office, so more are expected to file.
Although the Danville City Council recently approved changes in the ward maps, those changes do not go into effect until 2025; according to Sandy Delhaye, Executive Director of the Danville Election Commission.
