Danville now has three people running for mayor next spring. Incumbent Rickey Williams, Jr had already filed, and Vermilion Housing Authority Executive Director Jackie Vinson had already filed. Then, it became official in the final hour of the Danville Election Commission’s filing window late Monday afternoon that local political consultant and free lance journalist Jacob Lane will also be on the ballot for Danville mayor. Lane was born in Danville and graduated from Schlarman High School. But he says his time away from Danville has given him some ideas that he can bring to the table.

Also filing in the last hour was incumbent 6th Ward Alderman Ethan Burt, who had been sick much of the week. He will have an opponent, Jon Cooper. Recently appointed to the City Council, Burt said his first time through the filing process went just fine.
Audio PlayerAUDIO: Pretty smooth, all things considered. I had a good amount of help from other people on the Council as well as Mayor Williams, so pretty smooth. (We’ve got two of you there). Apparently. (So now it’ll be an interesting adventure.) If it’s for me, I’ll get it.
There will be no need for a primary in next spring’s municipal election. The rest of the Danville ballot for next April 4th will read Chris Heeren and Careth Klewicki running for Treasurer, Ed Butler and incumbent Alesia Ford running for Ward 1, and Jakob Wesley Dazey and incumbent Eve Ludwig running in Ward 5. Four other wards have unopposed incumbents: Rick Strebing in Ward 2, Sharon Pickering in Ward 3, Michael O’Kane in Ward 4, and Bob Iverson in Ward 7.
