United Way of Danville Executive Director Mary Surprenant says if there is something you need help with and are not sure which agency is there for you, the best place to go is the Vermilion County Help Network, accessible at VCHelp.org. As Surprenant recently explained to Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection, all you have to do is enter the word or topic that you need assistance with, such as “rent assistance” or “home repairs,” and you’ll be directed to all the area agencies that may be able to help.
Suprenant says, that’s a big part of what the United Way is about; building teams.
AUDIO: We want to help connect agencies to other agencies. We want to help connect those that are in need of resources, to those resources within our community. And if we don’t have that particular resource, not necessarily at United Way but in our community; we have that voice to be able to advocate and say, “Folks, leaders, community leaders, executive directors; we need to design a program together and find a way to help this need through.”
As for the current United Way fundraising campaign, Surprenant says that after the initial $80,000 raised during the Neuhoff Media kick-off in September; the campaign, under the leadership of current chairperson Carly Goodwin, is up to over $160,000. Remember you can go to UnitedWayDA.com and arrange your donation through options such as round-ups, monthly giving, or one-time donations.
