The next Danville Police Department Citizens Police Academy will be starting Wednesday, January 18th. It’s eight straight Wednesday evening sessions, 6 PM to 9 PM at the Public Safety Building. Officer Josh Long recently joined Laura Williams on 1490 WDAN’s Community Connection program, saying this is a great way to learn about so many things police officers do, and why.
AUDIO: We cover a log of different topics. I have speakers come in almost every week; every night that we have class. I start off the first opening night; we have the chief and the mayor come in. That gives them, our attendees, the opportunity to ask the chief or the mayor, “Hey, what’s going on? What about this? What about that.”
Other guests usually include the Vermilion County Sheriff, as well as a visit from the Danville Police Department K-9 unit. Since there’s also a Junior Police Academy, this class is recommended for those 21 and older. You can find the application on the City of Danville or Danville Police Department website, or stop by the Danville Police Department Records Division at the Public Safety Building.
