A special moment occurred during the December 15th Danville Area Community College Board of Trustees meeting when Board President Dave Harby was honored with his 6th Trustee Education Award, and Board Member Greg Wolfe was honored with his 2nd Trustee Education Award. DACC president Dr. Stephen Nacco reflected on the moment.
AUDIO: Both of them have excelled in education programs, for trustee education, through the Illinois Community College Trustees Association. And the executive director of the ICCTA came all the way to Danville, personally conferring those awards to them for their education support.
Jim Reed, Jr was the Illinois Community College Trustees Association Executive Director who made the trip from Springfield to Danville for Thursday’s meeting presentation.
Prior to the DACC Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, December 16th; there was a moment of silence for State Senator Scott Bennett, who passed away on December 9th. Dr. Nacco said afterwards that DACC was lucky to have called Senator Bennett a friend.

AUDIO: For DACC he was a friend; understood our students as well as anybody I’ve ever known. His work on the Higher Ed Commission, as the chair of that; he really galvanized the state and turned out for certain programs.
Dr. Nacco said just one example would be what Senator Bennett did for DACC’s Early Childhood Education Program. Dr. Nacco says that program that Scott Bennett helped make possible will have a profound effect on future generations; with the need to train to teachers and help fill the current teacher shortage.
