Services were held Monday morning (Dec 19th) for Senator Scott Bennett. And since his passing on December 9th, many have shared thoughts about him with us; such as those involved in local education. Lori Woods, a Danville High School Social Studies teacher, and faculty advisor for the DHS Future Problem Solvers; recalled the support Senator Bennett showed for her students on various projects, including one that concerned water safety.
AUDIO: I first met Senator Bennett in 2015 when I was still a teacher at North Ridge, where I first started with Future Problem Solvers. From the time he came into office, he was always one of our biggest supporters. We (her students) first met him on a project called “Liquid Lifesavers;” to just teacher about water safety and improve water safety, and things like that.

One of Woods’ current Future Problem Solver students, Isaiah Easton, shared his memories of Senator Bennett.
AUDIO: Scott Bennett did like everything. And he was also a really good, kind person. Because it’s true, the amount of times that he would just step away from his “job job,” to come help high school students with their community service projects, I think is really honorable. And I really respect him for that.
Danville Area Community College president Dr. Stephen Nacco recalled many programs Senator Bennett helped at DACC, and one he remembered right away.
AUDIO: Particularly Early Childhood Education, which is near and dear to our hearts. We have a program in it; we also have a child development center. We need to be able to hire people; we also need to be able to train people. This program, that he was instrumental in helping develop, is going to have a profound effect in future generations.
Dr. Nacco says, Senator Bennett would simply do anything he could for DACC.
