WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FOR VERMILION COUNTY FROM THURSDAY EVENING THROUGH LATE FRIDAY NIGHT
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Thursday evening through Friday night. Blizzard conditions will be possible with snow amounts of 3 inches or greater and wind gusts as high as 55 mph likely. Wind chills of -20 to -30 are expected Thursday night through Saturday morning.
Snow amounts look to be highest along and north of I-74/Danville, which is where the highest probabilities of 4″+ of snow. The wind will really start to ramp up by Thursday evening greatly increasing the likelihood of blowing and drifting of the fresh snow. Winds look to remain strong through much of Friday and into Friday night, with west to northwest gusts upwards of 50+ mph at times. This will result in the biggest storm impact, especially with the increased holiday travel. Fresh snow + strong winds + cold temperatures = the most ideal set up for blowing snow, whiteout conditions and blizzard conditions.
